Boxes & Squash Levels

The club has recently started using the Squash Levels system to run the boxes. This is a national ranking system approved by Squash England and covering over 46,000 players from club juniors through to the top professional players.

All club members who play in the boxes, are part of a team or who play other qualifying matches, will have a Squash Level and can track their results on the system.

Nick Askey continues to administer the boxes which continue to operate in the traditional way with promotion and relegation based on the results. 2 players will usually be promoted and 2 relegated, however this is impacted by players leaving and joining. A key principle of the system is to use relative positions so that winning a box will move a player above the 2 players being relegated however the actual league may remain the same due to players joining higher up the league. This is determined by the system and you will see this when referring to the ‘resting’ players section at the foot of the leagues on the website.

The Squash Level gives an added dimension as it is derived from the results of the individual matches, either from the overall result in games or the actual scores. The latter being much more accurate for any adjustments.

Simply go to the website (best accessed through the club site http://www.tonbridgesquash.club) and click on your name to see your most recent results and how your score has changed as a result of your matches. It is a very sophisticated system and after a few matches a player’s level will settle down and become a good reflection of their current playing standard.

Players may continue to record their scores on the paper version on the club notice board and these will be input to the system by the club. However, players are also encouraged to enter their own results on the website and to include the full game scores as this will produce more accurate levels. It is an instant system and the impact of a result will be visible immediately after inputting the results.

Hopefully the use of Squash levels will be interesting for all players and promote an added element of competition.
